Material Palettes: Working with Stone, Teak & Brass
Trends come and go; materials stay. Our studio returns to the same trio — stone, teak and brass — because they age with dignity and sit comfortably in the Pakistani climate. But honest materials demand honest detailing.
Stone: let it be heavy
Stone wants to read as mass. We use it in thick planes — a fireplace wall, a courtyard floor, a stair — never as thin cladding pretending to be structure. Local limestone and granite keep costs sane and supply reliable.
Teak: warmth with discipline
Teak brings warmth, but undisciplined woodwork turns a house into a furniture showroom. Our rule: wood appears in three places per room, maximum. Doors and windows, one joinery wall, and the stair — then stop.
Brass: the jewellery, used sparingly
Brass is the accent that makes stone and teak sing — tapware, light fixtures, door handles. Brushed, never mirror-polished; it should catch light, not demand attention. And it must be solid, not plated: plating fails exactly where hands touch most.
